Explorers Club Counselor

Job Type: Part-time Seasonal

FIND has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Explorers Club Counselor. Explorers Club is an outreach of FIND Outdoors and provides high-adventure outdoor recreation trips for youth who have previously had limited access to such opportunities. These trips occur on local public lands at a minimum cadence of six through the May – November season, primarily occurring on the weekends. Trip frequency will be based on program interest and could occur as many as 3-4 times per month should a second cohort be opened.

This position plays a key role in youth mentorship, family communication, and trip delivery, and works closely with the Chief Education Officer and Explorers Club Coordinator to ensure safe, well-organized, and meaningful experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and instruct youth during outdoor recreation trips
  • Provide positive mentorship that builds confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging
  • Foster a fun, engaging, and inclusive group environment
  • Model and enforce best practices for safety, risk management, and supervision
  • Collaborate on program delivery, enrollment, and trip planning
  • Support parent and caregiver communication, including logistics, expectations, and follow-up
  • Assist with trip preparation, including meal planning and basic meal preparation
  • Set up, inspect, and maintain program gear before and after trips

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Fluency in Spanish (required)
  • Prior experience in youth programming (education, recreation, mentoring, or similar settings)
  • Strong verbal communication skills with youth and adults
  • Ability to motivate and inspire youth in outdoor settings
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to problem-solve and adapt in dynamic outdoor environments

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in youth programming required. Experience in outdoor recreation, environmental education, or experiential learning strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable and competent in outdoor environments. Proficiency or willingness to participate in activities such as hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaking, and biking
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Schedule & Timeline

  • March - April: Planning and administrative hours focused on enrollment support, parent communication, and trip preparation. Roughly 5-10 hours/week. Planning/administrative work can be done remotely.
  • May - November: Regular weekend hours supporting Explorers Club trips. Roughly 20-25 hours/week when trips are occurring.
